Training

Starting from the middle of August Dalziel Dragons train every Saturday at Dalziel Park. Training starts at 10:00am. Training usually lasts an hour for primary 1-3 children and an hour and a half for P4 & P5, for older players in P6 & P7 training normally lasts 2 hours. Try to arrive a few minutes before the start time so players have time to get boots on, we can then start training promptly at 10:00am.

Some games have to be played on a Sunday but we attempt to get as many games as we can played on Saturdays at the normal training times.

Coaches

All Dalziel Dragons coaches and referees are Scottish Rugby Union (SRU) trained and parents may not become involved in training without receiving this training. We are also registered with the Volunteer Centre North Lanarkshire and all coaches have Enhanced Disclosure Scotland Checks.

Most (though not all) of the coaches were players themselves and usually have children in the squad they coach. As a result the same group of coaches will stay with players as they grow.

During games in Mini Rugby one of the coaches is always on the field with the team to encourage explain and advise when needed.

If you would like to become involved in training, contact one of the coaches on your child’s squad as we are always looking for volunteers.

The Dragons Den

The Mini section now has its own clubhouse the “Dragons Den” which is open most training and match days and is staffed by volunteer parents. It dispenses modestly priced hot food, snacks and drinks to the players and their families - vital especially on cold days.

The club has access  both to the pitches and toilet facilities at Dalziel Park due  to an arrangement with the Dalziel War Memorial Trust. As a result we are able to offer our players some of the best facilities available in Lanarkshire with several beautifully surfaced rugby pitches, Astroturf and indoor training facilities.

There is plenty of car parking and families are very much encouraged to stay and support their child by watching them play/train. Coaches are also happy to discuss any aspect of a player’s game with their parents or guardians.

We are always needing parents who are willing to give their time and help with the catering in the den. If you are willing to support the club in this way please talk to any of the catering crew.

Joining the club

Usually the club is quite happy for a new player to have a few weeks at training before thinking about joining the club. Playing rugby is not everyone’s cup of tea.

However Dalziel Rugby Club is just like any other club or association - we need members!

Annual subscription P1-P3  £20.00; P4-P7  £40.00, payable to Dalziel RFC Mini Section. To download a Excel registration/application form for the Dragons DL_RegistrationForm.xls

The club offers a Social Membership to any adult who is unable (too old!) to play rugby but wants to be involved and support the club.  You may have noticed that the new clubhouse is ready for opening this season and will provide a focal point for the club.  We hope to organize more social events in the future for the benefit of the mini section but also the whole of Dalziel Rugby Club.

Social Membership has many benefits including;

•Free use of the club gym on Tuesday and Thursday nights

•Eligible to apply for club's allocation of International Tickets

•Invitation to all Social Events

•Social Use of the Clubhouse

•A Vote at both the Senior and Mini Annual General Meetings

Also as a "mini" social member you are eligible to attend FREE SRU coaching and referee courses, including the SRU coaching updates (at least twice a year).

Social Membership is only £50 and an added benefit is that you receive a 50% reduction in your children(s) fees.

ALL YOUTH PLAYERS AT THE CLUB MUST COMPLETE A REGISTRATION FORM TO COMPLY WITH DALZIEL RFC AND SRU INSURANCE REGULATIONS.
